American Legion donates picnic table for Freedom Rock Park

A picnic table has been added to Freedom Rock Park just east of the Milwaukee Road depot on E. Lincoln Way in Jefferson. The picnic table sits between the depot and Freedom Rock, at the Raccoon River Valley Trail head.

It was donated by American Legion Floyd W. Brown Post 11 of Jefferson to enhance the park. It was funded through a grant awarded to the Legion by Grow Greene County in 2017. With the purchase of the table, all grant funds have been used.

The table matches other tables placed along the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Some members of Post 11 gathered at the table Wednesday, the day it was delivered.

Pictured ‘breaking in’ the table are American Legion members (front, from left) Louis Swanson, Jim Andrew and Jeff Lamoureux; and (back, from left) Elvin Thompson, Barb Labate and Earl Cherryholmes.
